BLACKSBURG, VA -- Jonas Works, Inc., a new company in the aquarium
product industry, has been selected as the winner of the 1999 Virginia Economic Bridge Entrepreneurship Award. The initiative of this award is to boost economic growth in Southwest Virginia by promoting the development of jobs in the area. Selection of the recipient was based on a review of proposals submitted to the VEB detailing plans for new company startup or new product development.
Jonas Works, Inc. was founded this year by two avid aquarists, each having more than 35 years’ experience in the hobby of fishkeeping. One of the founders, a design engineer, has over a dozen years’ experience in the
pet industry, having designed products for two of the world’s leading manufacturers of aquarium
goods.
The other, a biochemist knowledgeable in marine biology and water chemistry, is
also the owner of a company
that provides editorial consulting in science and technology.

Together, they recognize the needs of both the beginner and the advanced fishkeeping hobbyist and are developing innovative products that are superior in design, quality, and function. Their products are practical and convenient to use and provide added value to the consumer. With product convenience and customer service being its top priorities, Jonas Works, Inc. takes the hobby of fishkeeping to a new level of enjoyment. This will help foster the growth of the hobby through new and continued interest.
The award will serve as additional start-up capital for the company, which will begin manufacturing and marketing its products early in the year 2000. Jonas Works, Inc. will be presenting a variety of new employment opportunities to the New River Valley.
